It's been a while since my last post, but I was wondering if anyone (maybe Rick) could help me by telling me a good place to get parts/work done for old VWs in Maryland (or PA)?
Thanks,
Kristen

Hey Kristen:
I have purchased some parts from Peek Performance down in Lanham. Kind of a hike, though. Also, the Peek guys do engine and transmission work, but the only work they've ever done for me is some machining on my case before last rebuild.
There's a place called Desmond's in Baltimore and another place called Phil & Rick's also in Baltimore. I bought a couple of little parts from Phil and Rick's once and their price was definitely reasonable.
There's a guy named Harold Goldman that works on some of these old cars right out of his back yard. He lives down off of Ready Avenue in Baltimore City. I don't have a number for him here, but I think I have it at work and can check for you tomorrow. Again, he's never done any work for me, but I bought some parts from him as well.
Hope that helps. Where are you located?
Rick
p.s. Oh yeah, check out www.bugnaked.com-(not for site content) but because most of these guys/girls are pretty local to the Baltimore/Harford County area.

I found a VW shop / repairman in the Chambersburg, PA phone book. Look under auto parts I think the name was Danny. I tried calling him on Saturday but he wasn't open. I can't vouch for him just know he is there. Some local guys did recommend him.
I was there over the weekend when my Vanagon broke down in Shippensburg, PA.

Couple Suggestions in Baltimore Area
Try Paul at European Auto Tech, 410 544 9006, Ritchie Hwy, MD Rt.2 in Severna Park. Very reliable, reasonably priced, good guy.
Also for parts George's on Ft. Smallwood Road, Pasadena, MD, 410 437 7175. Large selection of old vehicles on lot.
Carl Reich Sr. in Brooklyn Park is a great guy and a wonderfully educated (VW German factory trained) mechanic, although I understand his employees do most of the work now. Don't have a phone number handy, but I get it if you like.
Lastly, if you have a Thing (I guess you do?) Dick's Auto Haus, just off RT 50, just over the Bay Bridge on the Eastern Shore. Last month when I was there they have several Things and about 100 other vehicles.
Drop a line if you want to motor some time (currently 76 Beetle, looking for others).
Best Regards,
Dave
