Fuel Line Issues

Greetings -

It runs but seems to only start when i pour some gas in the carb straight to engine....then once started runs and sounds strong. There seems to be fuel in the filter most of the time, not full but a bit. Sometimes it looks like just barely starting to fill. Inconsistently it will start with out having to do the above. The gentlemen i purchased from has the fuel filter after the pump, the other question is where can i find a diagram of which is the fuel line to the engine and then the return. I believe it is the way he has it set up. If you are looking in the wheel well of the passenger side you can see a hose leading off take to a T valve one line leads to the driver side the other leads downward to what appears to be the fuel line from the passenger side to the engine... can someone please shed some light on this topic for me.

The other issue seems that i do not have reverse or 2nd....what are some things I should be looking at. What are my options?.....any and all thoughts are welcomed.

I have to spray carb cleaner in my carburetor to start it when it sits for a while. I'm talking a month or 2 between starts. When I run it often, I have no problems.

For your gear problem, try this : rotate the shift stick 1/4 turn (no need to unbold anything : just turn it), and try again.

(For reverse, you're pushing down, right ??!!)

I had a fuel line problem with mine. My car sat for 12 years and the line became resinated. I poured varnish remover into the line and ran a snake thru it , I have had no problems since. There was some chat last year about it. It seemed like everyone had there own issues. if not the line check the fuel pump.

I do not think it is a actual dirty line....once i get her started you can hear the pump pumping. I believe it is the location of the fuel filter. When i recieved the car the fuel filter was in line after the pump...i have since moved the filter to before the pump. I really think the filter needs to go where the line leaves the tank and before it goes into the hard metal line on the frame. I have also watched the fuel as it flows thru the filter and it looks clean.

Jersey there is a filter in the tank at point of exit just inches from where you suggest. I will not comment on the appropriateness of an after pump filter placement except to say that it is common. I once had a Weber progressive on a Baja that did this also. I always had to prime the carb for first start of the day With another carb it did not happen even though the filter location remained constant.
My theory is this. If the car is running normally when you shut it off there should be a floatbowl full of fuel there to get you going in the morning regardless of how much gas is in the line,pump or tank.
Is your choke hooked and functioning? Before start up pull the top off the carb and see where your float level is. That should supply more information than speculation or guessing. If you have gas in the float bowl (which I doubt) and your choke is operative the car should come to life regardless of anything else. Cheers. Bob Ingman
