Timing help in Chicago?

Post by justinshelton »

Hi, Guys:

I really need help with my timing. I'm in Chicago and am curious if another lister is in the area who could swing by to help, or if someone can recommend a place to take the car. Ever since I put on the Pertronix six weeks ago, my timing has just been screwed up. I've followed the directions precisely, but it's just not quite right. The car does run.

Thanks

Justin

Ray went into great detail on this subject already.

Review past threads. He explained it well enough that monkey with an adjustable wrench could set timing. :D

On second thought, think that was with a standard dizzy. The pertronix might add a twist. However, read the past thread, I'm sure it will help. Good hunting!

I know on my Bus Type 4 engine a pertronix only IMPROVED the way the fuel injected engine ran, not made it worse.

Hey Justin, what's going on since you put the new points in? I put those in my Mom's bug and has been the best thing ever for the bug!! They are ten years old too! I think Ray said to set the timing to 10degrees at idle? I set mine with a tach and timing light since I dont have a advance light! Man is that a scary deal running it up that high in revs and working under the lid!!! What engine do you have? Maybe you have a vacuum leak goin? Those are bad on a Djet! Thx bill
