VOTE here
All,
Here is the attempt to arbitrate a couple of 'club' issues. Please post your vote.
1) The 411-412 Registry should be:
a) National (USA)
b) International
c) International with continental Chapters
d) Other, (please explain)
2) The 411-412 Registry should include:
a) Only 411-412 current/previous owners
b) Type 4 and Type 3 current/previous owners
c) Anyone who loves VWs
d) Only those that can prove German heritage
Voting closes mid-night 30 SEP 04. Ten votes will be considered a quorum.

My votes would be...
1 c) International with continental Chapters (because that would automatically give a local organization a focal point and make it easier to organize themselves)
2 b) Type 4 and Type 3 current/previous owners (Actually, it should be "Type 4 and Type 3 enthusiasts" to specifically include people who don't have such cars right now)

As to #2, if I was to vote strictly a), then I'd be excluded from the club,
as I don't own a Type 4 as this moment, and I never have, but I will
someday.
However, I think we should limit membership to Type 4
owners (past and present) and to all other enthusiasts of the Type 4
series.
Here's my thinking on the Type 3 issue. As a group of Type 4
enthusiasts, we are trying to direct attention to the 411 and the 412.
If we include Type 3s, they will soak up the spotlight. If there was
more in common between the series, that might be a good argument.
When you think about, what do the Type 4 and the Type 3 series have
in common? Not much.
Think about magazine coverage. How many Type 4s have been in the
US mags in the last decade? I can think of two, the green/wood wagon,
and Julie's red wagon. Now, how many Type 3s in the last year? There
are way more features in one month.
Parts availability is another way of looking at what needs to be in
the spotlight. Ever buy T3 seat covers? Easily available from most VW
shops. Now, what about T4 seat covers? Good luck. Same goes for
window seals, carpet, etc.
The only Type 3 I *might* consider would be the 70-74 models. It
seems the 69 and earlier models are way more popular and as such
they are a much easier car to restore.
That's my $0.02.

1) c
2)c
But...A registry and a club are seperate things. We should have a club...based around 411/412's and type 3's...open to all who like VW's of any kind...internationally...with nationally designated chapters. This club will contain as part of its charter....a registry for preservation and restoration purposes...of type 4's only. Thats not to say we couldn't have a registry of type 3's...but I think they already have one. Ray

this is making my head spin.
I want to amend the original 'phrase-ology', but don't want to pull a Stephen Spielburg on those who have already voted.
A club, yes, not a registry.
type 4 owner current/previous or has a Type 4 website (I probably wouldn't be here if not for Tuna's and Jens' websites) or is an enthusiast, yes.
I'll probably be off the net for about a week (power outage from Ivan). Someone else jump in as needed. We're heading in the right direction, but sometimes doing something like this is like trying to herd cats.

This is a tough one, we must consider that there are already clubs in Germany, Holland, and the U.K. (Type 3 & 4) However, as we know, there are some great Type 4's and people in places like Scandanavia, South Africa, etc... so I guess an international club would probably be best, with continental chapters.
The club should allow entry for all previous and present 411/412 owners, as well as admirers.

I'm going to have to go with:
c) International with continental Chapters
&
a) Only 411-412 current/previous owners
Actually I would be in support of any of the options for the 2nd question as long as the Type 4 recieves the attention that we are trying to bring to it. If that means having a club where every type is included and the type 4 gets special atteention, than that's fine with me.

I think you guys misunderstood my meaning about a registry. The club is the club. Anyone with a vw...especially a 411/412...past ...present...future...or just interested, should be welcome. But along side...or as part of, for those who do currently own type 4's...and for thosw who plan to.....we create a registry. This tracks the history and #'s of the vehicle. It can track the birthdates, teh dates we send oneto the scrapper...and where the parts may have gone to. I don't think it should be one or the other. The registry...in my opinion, is mainly a documentation section of the club as a whole. Ray

Ok, the web site layout has been updated.
http://t4registry.tunacan.net/index1.php
The site is for the "club" and the "registry" is a subsection of the club's
site.
I will need to know if we are including the T3s. I will have to adjust the
web site lay-out to include those.
