Lead, follow, or get out of the way
Gentlemen,
I am with everyone on moving forward quickly while we have momentum, i.e. making logo, est. a web site, etc.
We still have not resolved the 'inclusiveness' issue of the club.
Looking at those that have voiced their opinion/desire, we are about evenly split. Many have voiced " 'Type 4 only' or 'sole and primary object centers around Type 4' ". Others have voiced " 'Type 3 and Type 4' while some are for all inclusive (ACVW).
Some people lead, some people follow, but this process is not concluded as yet. Let's not jump at the latest thread just because we want to 'move on already'. Yes, let's continue to move forward, but in a deliberate manner and with a concensus of those of us who really care.
Before we execute a mission, we must have, at minimum, a good plan, and at optimum a great plan. Fellas, right now we have a many good, well intending 'members' wanting to make things happen,...but we don't have a good plan at this point.
Also, we are many 'worker bees' without a queen bee. We need a person in charge to task and delegate. This person must have some knowledge of the interworkings of a club, have management skills, and be willing to be a central point of contact. What we need fellas is someone willing to step up to the plate and take charge. What we are attempting to do here is NOT easy, it is not a haphazard endeavor
My suggestions are:
Ray or Tuna. I think both/either of these guys have the requisit skills necessary for the task at hand.
Many of us have volunteered to be the worker bees, but what we need is a leader with the afore mentioned skills. If not that, then at least someone who is willing to orchastrate and take point.

I may not be the person right now. I just got laid off (empasis on laid...with no lubricant). Technically I have to go back to the Philippines one more time then..swallow the load and find another job. I may not have the time to devote where it is needed. I also...do not do well as a queen. My head is too fat for the tiara...and my calves are too knotty to wear heels.....since Dr. Crap has the largest collection of plundered type 4 booty right now.....I think he should build the hive. Then again....Mr. Fish ...(TUnA)....is an archivist beyond repair...uh...compare
. At the very least...he is the registry man.
By the way...a gentleman just left me a note offering a scanned CD copy of the entire dealer parts catalog I was trying to get a hold of years ago
...for free...what a guy!
Things I keep track of in my little black book....and I know this sound stupid...but...every major part I steal...from a wreck that will never see dyalight again....gets its chassis # date and location i took the part...recorded in my black book. Every single part I remove or take off...gets its number recorded...if it has one. Every new or out of date part...like shocks, and suspension parts...gets recorded. It an immense help. I will start cataloging that. These include cross match parts. Ray

I suppose I could lead. I don't have the knowledge of what happens in a club setting is one problem. I have quite a bit of free time as I have no real obligations other than work. I don't have a lot of practical experience with the type 4 right now either, but hopefully that will change soon. Get this, though, a friend of mine wants me to come work for his company and be located in China! Man, I don't know about that. Maybe if I only stayed a couple of years? No way will I give up my VW's, though. Luckily, my storage unit could be reconfigured to be massive and potentially house all my vehicles. If I stay here, the my company is potentially turning around, and the cost of living is cheap too, so I could have my own Type 4 paradise/rest home here!

Uber...things are really cheap in China. Heck...you could probably get parts hand hammered to replace the rusty ones you have
....and...you can get ALL of your parts "hammered" on those weekends in Hong Kong. Maybe...if I'm still contracting at some point in the Philippines...we can get together and go raid that OEM parts house we saw on E-bay a while back.
I can see us embarking on a "Hunter-Thompson-esque" adventure to have small children "sweat shop" our type 4 parts for us...and smuggle the goods back into Canada or Mexico on the backs of immigrant "mules". Like....heeey baby...swallow these injectors and walk north!....Just kidding...only trying to be mildly offensive

Is this what's called being "railroaded"? I don't know if I'm the best when it comes to being a president. "My problem" is that I don't own a Type 4, nor have I in the past. I do plan owning one, but that's years away until I have the room to store it. It's like if the president of the NRA didn't own a gun. It doesn't present the right vision, in my opinion.
If it comes down to it, I will assume the position. I will assume it, if and only if I can count on you all to assist me. I'm a busy guy, working on 5 different VWs, maintaining numerous web sites, etc., just as you all are. Oh to be 19 again.... and having all the time in the world.
About the logo, here's what I was thinking. Take the logo we already had, modify it to say "VW 411/412 Registry". Bingo! logo for the registry, which could be used for stickers, for dressing up that oh so fine Type 4!!

For sure! I'll definitely be head of the registry, as this is something that I really believe in. Keeping track of the remaining Type 4s is something that we need to do know before they all disappear.raygreenwood wrote:Mr. Fish ...(TUnA)....is an archivist beyond repair...uh...compare. Is that the ETKA5?By the way...a gentleman just left me a note offering a scanned CD copy of the entire dealer parts catalog I was trying to get a hold of years ago...for free...what a guy!

Ive got it, great pictures, but if VW doesnt make a part, they dont list a part number for it.raygreenwood wrote:What is the ETKA5? This is an actual scan copy of the 500+ page blue manual that had illustrations and part #'s for every piece and model of type 4 made. It was the dealer parts manual. Ray

GREAT !!
Tuna and Uber have "volunteered" to lead this gaggle forward. I would suggest, as our two volunteers, you converse between yourselves so that we have one 'head of state' and then a 'vice head of state'.
I really wasn't suggesting/nominating you guys for club presidency, rather someone to take the lead on the formation of the club. Albeit, it would be a natural progression and you would be the 'heir apparent'.
Ray, your posts killed me, if I had been drinking something I would have sprayed the screen.

Maybe....we could all cough up some spare parts for a type 4...that could be put into a repository, so any "head of type 4 state"......who might be currently (albeit temporarily)...sans type 4.....could be given one. Kinda like the crown jewels
. That way...wether it runs or not....they have a type 4.
I was thinking ...that I could cast some little vw/cogwheel/type 4...lapel pins for members.
Then ...we could have rallys....we could recruit....make uniforms....we could round up all the other VW typers....put them in work camps to produce parts for type 4's....force everyone to drive 411's/412's....and then take over the world !!! ....Air-cooled UBER ALLES!!!!!..........
ooh...sorry! Got carried away. I Forgot that the last VW related person who tried that....also capped himself ....in a hole in the ground 60 years ago.
Carry on.........Ray
