A-1 header done and ready for testing by Jake

Well all, this is it. The first A-1 header for the Type 4 engine in a street Bug. Tiger is sending the header to Jake for testing on the dyno, but he snapped some photos of the header on my buddy Doug's 2412cc in a '67 Bug at A-1 Performance. Larger photos are available at my site.

So that's it, ladies and gentleman. Once Jake's done the testing, we should be able to purchase a header and muffler from Tiger. I don't have any costs right now, but as soon as I find out, I will post it here.

They do not have a web site, so the above info is the only way to contact them. Let Tiger know that you are interested in purchasing a header when they are available and that you saw it here. That way he knows what kind of demand he can expect.

Nice simple design! The valve covers are easy to get to for valve adjusments too. Does Tiger have a web site or E-mail address for us publicians?

I edited my first post with his email address. They do not have a web site, so contacting them via email or phone is the only way.

I can't wait to get the header and muffler for my 2056cc, as it is exactly what I've been looking for.

LOOKS GREAT TUNA! I know Tiger built it, but it wouldn't have happend without your persistence. I hope it passes the "Jake" test, it is sooooooo simple it's beautiful....makes me want to build a street bug around that exhaust. The Kafer style bars should fit with no problem also for the "too much power still isn't enough" crowd.

Sent him an email, asking if he will ship to the UK and expressing an interest in the exhaust.

Looks VERY nice, provided jakes testing shows its good I am prepared to put down cash for one of these.

One question though, is it stainless steel?

His business card states "We Ship Worldwide", so that's probably not going to be a problem.

He can build it out whatever you want. I don't know what this one was made of. When I dropped off the engine and my BAS header, we discussed many issues, and he said that just about every header that they make is essentially custom made. You can get different materials, finishes, sizes, etc. For example, I'm getting an O2 sensor bung in my exhaust set up for tuning and monitoring purposes.

I did have ulterior motives though, as I've longed to have a header like this one. I'll be able to realize my idea of a Type 4 powered Cal-Look Bug.

Yeah, I'm waiting to see how it does on Jake's dyno too... I thought you'd be able to use your blue car with this one....

It should be fine with the Kafer setups, and when I get mine done, I'm going to see about a traction bar for this application.

That's great news! That system with their turbo A-1 would look sisck in the back of my Ghia, and definitely throw off a lot of the Cal-look guys for sure!

I sent Tiger an email as well. Honestly, head flanges aside, it should flow a lot better than the FAT system I had in my Ghia, plus, it has a true collector at the end, and the usage of a standar Fatboy or A-1 turbo muffler should open up a gillion posibilites!

I will be needing as O2 sensor bung, square port head setup and stainless steel...

I definitely love the look and fit of that exhaust. Even going through their prices in magazines and the like, $300+ bucks seems reasonable, specially when you take into account the availability of mufflers for that type of setup.

It would be interesting to see how the "step header" adds to performance on the T4. I'm sure there will be a line of different possibilities heading for Jakes dyno in the times to come.

La performance J tubes and merge in mild steel. Its a few years old now and is starting to show its age, also as I wrapped it its trapped water in a few places which doesnt help either. Silencer system made by Long Life exhausts(local firm), very impressed with there work and attitude, couldnt do enough to help, discussed requirements (loud, medium, quiet, will I want the option of fitting wider wheels in the future, stainless or not, what exhaust tip did I want, any problems with us routing it like 'this' or 'that')

The nice thing about this header is that ANY of the TI style mufflers will fit it easily... Thats a godsend for looks and for cost both!

This was the last missing piece to the Type IV puzzle. Now that we have this, things will be even better in 2005 for the Type IV.
