Welcome. Take it slow. You have a lot of suspension work to look at. If you drive it too far before several items are checked to make sure they are servicable...a single part can destroy the rest....and at the moment suspension parts are almost impossible to get for certain things.... :D for the moment. Ray is right. Check everything over first, especially the tranny.

Let me know when that moment is up Ray, I need some parts. :P

Its getting closer. i may take a lower paying/ less intense (read that as less hours and responsibility) job...if and when I find one...so I can manufacture parts. I have on my list ..all suspension rebuild parts, a pile of fuel injection parts...and body rubber and...fender welting  Ray

Oooh...forgot to mention may latest brain child. How about....a ceiling mounted airconditioning console. About 6" deep, all the way side to side, the front panel of which is sloped backwards , with the front panel containing 4 vents....two passenger, two driver . The front panel will endright over the headrest so you can aim the vents forward (for a nice defrost boost too) or downwards. Two vents along the sides towards the rear. The fan will be large, about 10"...about 3" thick, run by a 3 speed motor off to the side using a production geared belt drive...so it takes afew seconds to spool up...but has very low starting load...and very high rpm capability (about 5000 rpm like the stock blower motor). The blower section will be back toward the rear...about 4.5" thick. It will use a stock golf Jetta evaporator and valve assembly. The feed and return tubes will be run down the "c" pillars under the padding. I will also have to make a bracket to use to mount the compressor I guess. I already have an design to use a stock VW fox/ audi 4000 condensor...in a sheet metal "Z" caseing.....under the right rear...about where the brake pressure regulator is forward of the supension beam. it will use the stock...any stock VW radiator electric fan. It will invisible....and utilize a 4' coiled hose pair...so you can unbolt it and swing it out from under the car on its hoses so you can work on things under there.
The interior unit will go all the wya to the roof against a padded sheet...so it will not be seen from teh outside. Contols on the bottom, condensation tube down the "b" pillar under the vinyl and out the pan through a grommet. It also occoured to me that one of these for bug and type 3 would be groovy. I got the idea in the Philippines...cause every van we were in had self contained cieling mounted units.

The headliner..I would have to produce. the headliner support rods...Iwould also remake...but out of 1/2" tube. The tube would support the weight of the unit...about 25 lbs. They would be shaped on the ends...just like an inverted roof rack. They have flat ends and slip under the edge of the window gasketing...wherin a single 1/8" hole in the foot of each one is drilled into the lip under the window gasket...and a 1/8 pin insserted. The headliner would be basciall ythe same design as stock...it would have the same # of panels except where the unit takes away two in the center. The difference is ..inside, there are 1/2 diameter stitched loops of the headliner to slip the rods through. Instead of having to have the difficult corner pleated support points at each hoop...you have a single continuos 6" pannel at each side with a fore and aft seam. Other than that...it looks just like stock and is the same materisal. Except...the very front lead panel...and last rear panel ....will not be the "printed" dot pattern...but open dot pattern with real holes just like the rest.
I already have contacts who would sew it form me.
The console...would be cast zinc. Nicely rounded..and covered carefully with headliner material with 1/8" padding underneath. They would use a standard golf, Jetta, Saab etc...compressor. I could probably have lines benmt for the C pillars as well. This has been a design project for a while. i actually had underdash prototypes made up a year ago for a vertical console type. Too many headaches. But...suspension first. Ray
