'68 ghia project (revised)

Post by ghiacrazy »

Whooops, didn't know the last one was a dud  Here is another try...

Again, this is the progress I've made with the help of some books and reading tons on shoptalkforums.

This is my first vw that I plan to keep for a while - I want to drive her as much as the weather permits!

Ghiacrazy, those new colors look like the one that my '64 Ghia coupe came with (before being painted glaring orange). Are those VW colors? What codes/names and from what year? I'm glad you decided to go with a two-tone! Yours will be a very nice car when done. You're so lucky not to have much rust, like we do out here in the NorthEast. My coupe came from Arizona but still had some spots that needed patching.

RoWaME,

Thanks for the message, but I've been away from my computer for awile so I appoligize for the late reply.

The top is Pearl White (L81 I think), and it was available for many production years. The blue color is a New Beetle color: Aquablue. In the sun, it is hard to tell if the color is blue or green, which is why I like it.

I am so glad to have decided to go with the two tone. It adds something to a car that seperates it from the millons out there. Sure a lot of VWs or other custom cars have two tone paint jobs, but how often do you see a two tone job during your everyday driving? Not very much here. Plus, painting the car was the most fun thing I've done yet, so I liked spending the extra time to do what it takes for a two tone job.

Yes, I was glad to discover that rust was not an issue with this ghia! But when I got the car, the pan already had repair panels welded in, so I guess at one time it was a little rusty.

Looks great!

One more beat up VW that is not only being fixed, but is going to end up looking killer!

Isn't it a great feeling to look at the pictures, look at the car, and realize how far you've taken it? :-D

Keep up the good work, and make sure you post some pictures when it's done!
