Latest on windshield/window gaskets?

Post by MGVWfan »

There was a post a few months back on someone that had rubber grommets/gaskets for T4's...I'm ready to buy now, tried the link in the post, no joy. Anyone know what happened...I think it was Revolks in Arkansas maybe?

Yep...it was revolks. I have a method for installing late bug style gaskets that work perfectly and look nearly factory. Let me know if you are in need. It takes a little to explain. I may be able to take some digital pictures in a junkyard of how the parts fit. Ray

Thanks to all, just the info I was looking for.

Ray, that SB window rubber, was it for the windshield or what?

There are several part #'s. It is the one with the thin outer lip that laps over th body. I will find you a part #. The hassle with type 4 rubber is not really the step on the body. That is very similar if not identical...to whats on a super and a few other cars. Its the outside dimensions of the glass. It requires rubber than has a larger inner cord or cross section to it...becausethe glass...when centered does not approach as close to the body. My solution....and I have done a 412 quater window with it,,,which means it will work anywhere on the car......was to aquire lengths of 1" wide ribbed belting...like you find on a serpentine belt. get it at any belting dealer by the foot. Flat on one side , ribbed on the other. I trimmed off one rib and split it....making it effectively about 11mm x 3/16". That was applied ...with sealant all the way around the window opening. Then every 4" ...I made a flat spot in the ribs with the dremel...and drilled a hole...and pop riveted. This nice ribbed packing...now made up the difference on the super gasket. This gasket has that curled outer top lip ...real thin that lapped against the body. It looked great. You will need two of the original gasket to do teh windshield or rear window. I can't actually remember which bug it was...but I have the part # written down. It fits great inside too. The thin cross section makes it real flexy so it fits the quarter windows without buckles. It as chap...like $18 or so. The belt makes the fit very secure as teh ribs on the v-belt mesh with the ribs on the back of the gasket. Ray

Nadine...That mirror....is it actually the 411/412 part # mirror? Price is killer for any mirror, but if its the right part #...it will save me rebuilding mine. Thanks...Ray
