Body seal

Post by caspar »

i just got a body seal, under windshield, from the thing shop.. this one is a little different from the stock.. this has an extra flap of smooth weather strip. one side looks like the stock. hope i explain this correct.
my question is which side faces the front of car.. the smooth extra flap, or the rough(stock looking) side..
i called the thing shop, they side smooth side faces inside of car.. but when i put it that way the smooth flap covered my defrost openings..

thanks caspar

Caspar, I thought I had the OEM seal for you. Still i understand that you want yer car to be right so you bought the big buck Thing Shop seal.

Here is the secret to the seal. The extra flap need to be pushed forward so it does not block the defroster port. Take a small screwdriver when the windsheild frame is 3/4 up. Make the extra seal point forward. After that do not move the windsheild frame for at least three days. I would also moisten the rubber seal with your favorite rubber lubricant ( WD-40 or what ever) prior to this procedure. The rubber will gain memory and point the way the aftermarket seal was designed to outperrform the original seal. I thought we had more body seal window frame etc stuff to swap. DIid I miss a step?
