Post by longtravel002 »

Are there any tricks are concerns I need to be aware about when taking the nose cone off my 002 transaxle? First time.

The nose cone removal is a very straight ahead procedure. Don`t damage the sealing surfaces between it and the intermediate housing. Bob

here is what you will see once the nosecone if off. as you can see on the left are the three selector shafts the top one is for 3rd and 4th the middle one is for reverse and the bottom one is for 1st and 2nd. if your trans is stuck in 2nd you may find the bottm selector pulled out away from the case. you need to see if it wikk push back inline with the other two shafts to give you neutral. if this happens easy your problem may only be in the nosecone area (worn bushings or shift ball or a bent hocky stick) if not your broblem may be with the gearbox itself or a worn gear carrier housing. the gear carrier housing is the part of the trans case you see in the picture holding the selector shafts. :)

A picture is worth a thousand words :D :D Excellent help from everyone. If I can slide the motor far enough back to get the nose cone off I will know today if I can solve this from the nose cone area.

Is that bottom shaft the same shaft I was trying to move into neutral from inside the "filler hole"?
