A tech question, finally! Body to tin foam seal...

Post by ubercrap »

OK, now I'm actually going to work on one of my cars! I got a new engine compartment seal delivered from Fedex here at lunchtime (I live about 1 min. from work, so I go home for lunch :D ) I know this is kind of dumb, but which side goes where? One side of the "H" looks coated with something, and the other side is just open-cell foam. I'm assuming the coated side goes in the engine bay? The old one just broke into dust, so I couldn't tell...

The coated side goes down. foam cell goes inside compartment.

I don't know if I'm feeling that ambitious.

I would betyou can also do it...with a very flexible, spray on truck bed liner
The silicone method takes about 3 tubes of permatex super balck....and a couple pairs of latex gloves. You a bull dog clip to hold the top of the seal to a clotheline....and spread all of the black goo out on a piece of plexiglass. The ...with gloves on of course...scoop it up and start slathering it on as completely and thinly as possible. Don't foget to spread it into the crack....  ....you can probably see a close example on the ubercoveredinoil link  . Let it dry. The permatex super series is good to about 600f. Ray
