412 owner deceased

Post by 67 T1 »

Dang. Just got new copy VW Trends (yes I subscribe and yes I like the mag), anyway, about a year and half ago they featured two 412s. The green woody and a red, near emaculate, 412 named Sparky. I think the owners name was julie.

While reading the new mag I came across the page written, forget her name, maybe Lois, or Grace. In her artical she discussed Julie and how she had passed away. Sad.

Was that Julie Aleva...I think thats the name. I have a vague memory that she may have been in for liver surgery a few years ago. Sad. Ray

You can see a photo of Julie's car and background at

I believe it is from 1999. Very sad news!

Hmmm, I don't know, but I guess I was mistaken that her car was the one with the TSW VX-1 wheels and lowered at the front, or did she change it later?

Julie has died???

Post by Kirk Knighton »

I met Julie up here in Seattle last summer. We had made contact thanks to that VW Trends article, and her VW club was doing a cruise up through Seattle. I drove my restored 412 to meet her; when I arrived she came over and greeted me like a long-lost brother! (We type-4 drivers are a rare species, after all.) We took a bunch of pictures of our cars, her's red, mine silver-blue (you can see it at type4.org in the 1974 pictures section). She even autographed my copy of VW Trends! I can't believe she has died! When I met her she was driving with a boyfriend who was a VW mechanic; I presume he will take over Sparkie's ownership duties?
Damn; I'm sitting here in a state of shock. She was so young and full of life! Kirk in Seattle

Julie's dad is online now

Post by type4org »

Hi guys,

This just came through on the Type-4 list on Yahoo Groups from David, Julie's father:
I would love to hear from anyone who knew my wonderful
daughter who passed away on November 1st. I know Julie had
lots of friends whom I never got the chance to meet. If anyone
wishes to share their thoughts, please contact me. Thanks.
David Aleva
The list is at http://autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/Type-4/ if you're interested and want to share some memories.
