Hello guys!
Today I was get a floor pan from 1975 181.
Pan halves are in bad shape (rusty).
I want to put a oval (bug) bodyshell on it so it needs to put bug floor pans on it.Is this correct ?
I want to remove the old pan halves from it to save some money.So what is the recommended/correct procedure to remove them ??? Anyone have done it ???

The 181 pan is basically just a Karmann-Ghia part, so yes you can lop off the floorboards and install Beetle pans. Most folks who aren't interested in concours-quality will simply whack them off about an inch away from the tunnel, clean up with a grinder and lay the new pan atop the remaining "flange" with a fat bead of sealer between and then rivet them in place. If you want it to look nice from below it'll take considerably more effort.

My plan is to first cut out each pan halve leaving just 5 cm from every side.Then use some wire brush to expose the spot welds and to drill them.
Do I miss something?

*UPDATE*
Finally last Friday I was remove the last remaining of the floor pans from the chassis.The bad is thas someone has weld them also from the underside.Luckilly I remove them without any damage to the chassis but it takes double the time if they was just spot welded.The pans has never been changed so why someone has weld them is a mystery.
I would like to know if the rear cross-members of the 181 do they work with bug pan halves ? They have an extension piece welded in the end as they have two oval holes bug has just one.
Or I have to entirely remove them and put bug items ?

1958?! if i remember correctly.. sitting on a 181 floorpan and suspension... was owned by a cool german guy who used to live near to me... said when he built it he had a few probs around the rear torsion bar/rear inner wing mount area, other than that it was pretty simple...
tyres were imported from south america... im in the u.k. here!
said he could go anywhere most "normal" offroaders would go with out problem... ran a 1200 i think with a few "reliabilty" mods.. had a special geared transmission and wanted another special one built 'cos the rear end literally used to jump when he accelerated in first!
