Brackets and threaded holes on thing...help

Post by davidsigouin »

Located just behind the back seat of my 74 thing on the flat deck portion, before the rear wheel, on each side is an angled flat bracket with 4 holes in each. They are set on about a 45 deg angle. Does anyone know what they are for? Also where the front seatbelts store {hooks on door post} there is a threaded hole above and below the hook. What are they used for?
Thanks

The angle brackets are mounting positions for rifle holders left over from the military version. Ignore them. The 8mm holes in the door post are for mounting a "roll bar/show bar" ...these tapped holes hold the front hoop to the "B" supports.

Correct info on the rifle mount brackets. But.. The two threaded holes on the door posts also hold the center support bars for a Thing hardtop. If your Thing was a soft top only the holes may be filled with black plastic plugs. I have two 73 Things, one is a soft top model the other is a hardtop. I have the center hardtop support bars installed and can send a pic of this factory original set up if anyone cares. K-mann

First off, yes I will post photos on Samba and link the post here. They will be simple to fabricate if you have a fair to good metal fabrication shop. Another idea might be to buy a pair from Mike Basso at Things Unlimited. I would guess he has a pair for sale. If not I will also be happy to take careful measurements for ease of fabrication. K-mann

The pictures of the hardtop support bar are now posted on the Samba.

You can find then by searching posts by "Kubelmann or by Thing..

I will be taking measurements for the part and posting that information.

I am also checking with Mike Basso at Things Unlimited to see if he has this part for sale. K-mann
