Cool thanks! Anyone who has the patterns and is good could save us all money. The reason i do suggest sew finr...is that they primarily make VW seats and panels...and have ALL of the original materials and more. But....you can also simply purhcase them by the yard there.

Which reminds me of my latest creation. I am developing a stock headliner kit. It should install in about 30-45 minutes with original type headliner material...and be almost indiscernable from origiinal.....and have "0" sewing involved in it....... Its such a cool idea.....I will say no more...you will be shocked. vwbill- when you talked to that guy at L&S, did he know for a fact that those interior places did 411/412 work? Or was he recommending a place off the top of his head?

Reason being, I checked out the West Coast Metrics and the GAHH websites/catalogs and found no mention of type 4 work/parts/interior.

I suggested the bulk orders previously, based on reading past posts on this topic.

I quote Ray from Nov of last yr...
"I am still going to send my seats in at some point to sew-fine to get patterns made. Perhaps we can all get together for a group buy. Having the front seats made and the patterns...would be $450 for the pair....my cost. After that...once they have patterns....they are about half".
If we DO need a "pattern" made, especially at that cost, we might as well all throw down on it. Otherwise we all eat that cost.

If NOT, then I am interested in hearing where we can get the best product at the best cost.
I will have the covers for my car just mailed to me to have a local shop install them.

I will await your opinion on this.

cheers

Hey, I cant say for sure but maybe we should email west coast metric to see if they have the patterns available? The other one he said was a big place and couldnt believe they wouldnt have any vw pattern??
I couldnt tell you for sure! I was just wondering what colors most people are working with? I have the Bamboo. I have seen alot of the black ones. They also show a Mocho in the interior book which is darker then the bamboo. I guess if we get the Pattern from the Ray set we dont need anything else. Has anyone gotten any estimate for doing the seat covers? Interior work isnt cheap! I remember when I was trying to do a 53 chevy 150 4dr the interior kits were from 1200 to 2500! If we can get the cost down from Sew Fine that would be sweet! Bill
p.s. The hard part of matching the Bamboo was getting a tan that wasnt either too brown or too yellow/baby crap color! I was amazed how sweet that vinyl was and how it looked like a leather grain but alot cheaper!

WCM does not have the patterns. I checked on this years ago. WCM is not a custom sewing shop. They make patterns for those cars that have demand for them. TMI does not have them either.

Sew fine does not have patterns either. What they do have, is "almost" every original seat vinyl, carpet, panel and headliner material made...as well as in OEM brands. Again...the tpe 4 was unique, but they do have a couple vinyls that are very very close. I'm having mine done in Tweed sitting surfaces and vinyl lower and sides anyway. I also have patterns layed out for doing my door and rear panels in tweed.

Generally, sew-fine will charge about $400 I think...to make patterns from your seat covers. Then....the front seats will cost from $175- $225 ea I think. If the rear is identical from theor inspection, to the type 3...like I believe it is.....the rear will cost $125. This is just on an individual basis. I will start on the group buy thing pretty soon. Thanks Ray for the info on the patterns! That is way cool that Sew Fine has some of the original materials! I was lucky that my pass. frt seat (less a small hole in the side) aned rear was in good shape cover wise so they just had to made a new driver cover and repad all the seats which still wasnt cheap! I think it was a little over 500! I didnt need the heat rest done so I was trying to keep as much of the originals as possible but it would have looked alot nicer doing all the interior the same!! I was just amazed by the vinyl stuff with the grain and how it looks so much like leather and is so soft! Ray sent another front seat pic trying to get a better color look! Sorry they are so big mb wise but then you can zoom in,lol! Bill
