Sorry to bump up an old thread but I've got a question about these '73 Thing shrouds .....
Are they shorter in height than a regular doghouse shroud?
I hear this every once in a while but am not sure if it's true.
I have what is supposed to be a '73 Thing shroud (no snouts) but it is the same height as a regular doghouse shroud with the heater snouts.
Are any of the Thing shrouds shorter?
No, Thing shrouds are not shorter, Puma shrouds are. CB Performance used to sell them in the 80's. They had dog house and no dog house versions in chrome or black with or with out ducts.
The 73 Thing Shroud is a one-of-a-kind item. It is a dog house shroud and has no clean air ports. It also has a unique interior design. I have cut open a bunch of dog house shrouds to fabricate a 73 Thing style shroud that gives space for a type 4 oil cooler. On one of my 73 Things I have an unmodified 73 Thing shroud and as Jake has stated earlier on this thread it delivers a far higher volume of air to the cylinders. The air pathways are unique to the Thing. The downside of the modifactions that Ihave perfromed is it makes for a tight installation. K-mann
