I'll be racing in a circuit and I'm not sure of what tire size to use. I'm limited to 15" rims, no slicks or soft compound, just normal radials.
The tire that I'm planning to use comes in 2sizes;195/55/15 and 205/50/15. Currently, I have a set of 15x6 ET46 and a pair of 15x7 ET42. Should I use 15x6 rims with 195/55/15 on all four or 15x6+195/55/15 front and 15x7+205/50/15 rear?
This is for a 68Bug with balljoint+drop spindles/swing axle suspension, 3/4swaybar front, standard Z-bar rear and Bilstein shocks front/rear.
Cheers
I plan to use Dunlop DZ02G R-tyres front 195/50-15 on 6" rims and rear 205/50-15 on 7" rims for my racing 1303. The wheels are Porsche cookie cutters with ET36 for 6" and ET23 for 7" I think.
My standard street bug with dropped spindles and swing axles has normal radials 185/65/15 front and 205/65/15 rear, all Porsche 6" Fuch rims. It also has 3/4" front sway bar and rear standard z-bar but added a camber compensator. I am quite satisfied with it although I have never tried to push it to limit.
Flow,
How did you install the rear camber compensator while retaining the z-bar? What year is your car? I can only use one of those.
My tire choice is between Yokohama Neova AD-07 (195/55/15 and 205/50/15) and Dunlop Direzza DZ101 (195/55/15/ and 205/60/15). It seems that Dunlop is better in terms of grip but the rear 205/60/15 is a little too tall when compare with 195/55/15 front. I wonder if it's a good idea to use Dunlop in front and Yokohama on rear
I just bolted it on without any problem. My bug is a 69 model (Euro specs). I think the camber compensator and the z-bar shouldn't be interfering with each other in term of installation.
Not sure if AD-07 or DZ101 is better. In general it seems that Yoko's are better and last longer but more expensive than Dunlop's.
i'd go with the staggered setup. Because even though you've got the z bar there, the swing axle is prone to over steer because of the massive camber changes. Thus running the wider tire in the rear should help this, plus you can run less air then too. dont forget the limiter straps
The main concerns would be would it fit with that et. I don't know what the limits are.
Flow,
On 68Bug, there's a holder(don't know what's it called) for rubber bushings for the z-bar on the torsion tube. This has to be removed if camber compensator is installed and with that, the z-bar is useless. Limiter straps should work as suggested by Rip. Thank you.

Rip,
The wheel offset is fine with stock fenders but I need to limit the front turning radius a little. Tire pressure will be about 26-28 psi up front, 28-30 for the rear. Is there a way to tell from the way the tires wear out if the pressure is too high or too low?

I beleive if the tire wear on the out side edges you have too little and if it wears in the center and not the edges too much, probably want a couple lbs above where you start to wear evenly accross the tire.
