Thanks rsrnate for a good piece of information. This gives me confidence to use dry sump pump/pulley on my racing bug.
My 1641/Kads/W100 street bug with stock size berg equalizer also has oil temp problem when sustain freeway driving at 4000rpm or over in hot summer. I had always been "educated" that smaller than stock size pulley will raise the oil temp and therefore I never thought of using power or dry sump pulley.

Flow,
How often is the race? Where can I find more info on the rules of the race? Do you know the customs procedures of bringing cars to China for racing? It would be great if a few cars from here could joined the race but only if it's within reasonable cost.
VW club race at my place has just started. First race is already over and the 2nd race is on 2-3 July.

Hi BkkBuff,
The Collectable Car Race in Zhuhai will start in July. I think there will be a race every month until the end of the year. You may refer to the schedule on this link.
http://www.zic.com.cn/zicen/Calendar.asp?Article_ID=92
I haven't contacted the club since last season because I haven't got my car ready yet. Therefore I am not sure about the costs for coming season.
According to the basic costs of last season, the shipping cost for one car from Hong Kong to Zhuhai was about US$1000 round trip. The car could stay there for 6 months and the storage fee was about US$80 per month. The entry fee for each race was around US$400 not including fuel and repair services. Each race consisted of 4 sessions of 20 min.
Basically they follow the FIA Group N race regulation but I think it is always loosely implemented because it is not a formal race event.
As of now, I don't think there is any beetle joining the race. At the moment only 3 persons I know (including me) are interested to race their bugs but only one car is ready (not mine unfortunately). It will be fun if more bugs can join especially someone from overseas.
Not sure about the customs procedure. However, since the cars are not road legal, I think they can be declared as used car parts or even scraped metal when shipping from Thailand to HK. This may avoid customs duties.

I have the CB dry sump pump. I have to run one of their sand seal power pulleys to clear the pump. The sand seal kit comes with spacers to stand both pulleys out a bit plus I machined the back side of the pulley so it didn’t have to stick out too far. I am also running a 356 alternator pulley so my fan turns a little bit faster than stock. I have a stock doghouse shroud with a thermostat and if anything it takes a bit too long to heat up. When it gets hot I have a 4” diameter duct that directs air from under the car into the fan opening. The extra ducting really helps and I have run 4 to 7k for 7 hours (with stops every 2 hours for gas) in 30C plus weather maintaining about 195F oil temp. The way I have the ducting blowing into the fan opening gives the air an initial velocity and increases the fans effectiveness to a much higher RPM since it doesn’t have to accelerate the air as much. For a race only motor you will want to turn the fan slower, consuming less power and duct as much as you can.

what about wheel and tire size are these resticted? Because depending on the average speed on the track you can drop the wheel/tire size so you can fine tune at what mph your power is. Say your power is really only between 3500-5000 rpm you could dropped the tire size a little so you can accelerate faster and stay in that power band.
Just a suggestion for fine tuning, as finding a cam with good wide band is more dominate in terms of overall feel. Cam requirements should be taken up with their manufacturers, they'd know more about the stuff. But, try not to do it over the email, I'd call and see when would be a good time to call back and talk, spend some time with this one.

My engine's is almost the same as Flow but I'm limited to single 34pict-3 carb and stock ratio rocker arms. It has 041 heads with 40x35.5/moderate P&P, C/R will be about 9:1, swing axle with 8/31 stock gearing.
For this coming race, I'm using 195/55/15 tires on all four corners. For the other remaining races, the rear wil have 205/50/15.
The car has to weigh no less than 2000lbs with driver (It's the rules thing for my class). I can't decide between w110 or w120 cam. They are what I've at the moment. Which of the two cam will give the most usable power band & torque. Rpm's will be limited to 6000-6500. All help is greatly appreciated

Flow, hope you don't mind, me sharing the thread.
