Windshield frame

Post by chattathing »

I just purchased a complete new windshield frame and all rubber associated with it. Any tips on assembling all the parts? Do you use any lubricant on the rumbber when installing it?

A solution of warm water and dish washing detergent works great for installing window glass/window rubber to it's frame. Fill a squirt bottle with this solutuion ans squirt it around the frame and rubber. This acts as a lubricant, and along with small diameter rope that you'll use to install the glass/rubber weatherstrip into the frame, it allows the rubber to slip into position

A helper is recommended to apply light pressure to the glass as you pull on the rope (this is wrapped along the inner groove of the weatherstrip that seats into the frame) around the windshield.

If you're uncomfortable about doing this the first time, look in your local yellow pages for auto glass repair/installation. Most will come to your home and install it at your house. When you watch them, you'll see how easy THEY make it look.

Thing windshields are not installed with a rope. Install the rubber on the glass, remove the lower frame and slip the glass in place, reinstall the lower frame.

No rope? Even easier than! Don't even need the water/soap solution than either.
