Radio Speakers

Post by dphdo »

Greetins all!

OK, so this will not help world hunger, or enlighten the Hindu Monks or anything, but I have a question. I have a Sapphire XXI AM radio with 8 track in my '74 412. It is set up for a two speaker system (telling by the two sets of speaker wires coming out of the unit. I bought this unit on EBAY a while ago. OK, now for the question, I want the car to maintain its original appearance, so what kind of speakers did VW use for this kind of a set up in 1974? Where did they install them? I seriously doubt they used the underdash speaker (or did they???????). My 412 is a wagon. Any thoughts?

I have only seen two set ups. One...I am not sure was really stock. Yes....ost probably they used teh factory single speaker under the dash.

Otherwise, I have seen a few that use surface mount speakers mounted on the sheet metal plate kind of down near the the driver and passengers outboard calves, forward of the doorframe and under the dash. Ray
