L- Injectors not firing

Post by Longbeach412 »

Howdy all, been busy getting the top end done on my 74 and a bunch of other life crap :) . Got as far as mounting the engine and getting her to crank but no running. The injectors are getting juice and gas, but not pulsating. It looks like a wiring thing to me, so I checked all the connections and all seems ok, to me! Any clues what could cause such a problem? Thanks for any thoughts. Now, off to search the list files.

They get their impulse from the distributor/coil. Check your connections carefully. Also, check your grounds very carefully. They can possibly be getting juice (+)...but no negative. Ray

ok, I already checked the 2 wires going into the case under the throttle body. But there is a long ground wire coming out of the right side, is it supposed to go to the gas heater solenoid on the far left side?
(Thats what you get when you let your mechanic do the work :( at least the guy is honest about it.)

D-jet has totally seperate triggers. Its a different set-up altogether. The L-jet takes a timing impulse from the coil to batch fire all of the injectors at one time. Ray

I dug up a Haynes for the early Vanagon and it has on P. 83 a display of the ECU and the harness. There is a wire with a single spade connector labelled "to ign coil", that must be the link, and it is the one I wondered about earlier. Plugged it into the +ve side of the coil. Unfortunately no change and still no pulse. I'll check the ECU relay next. Thanks for the response Ray.

Got it! it goes to the negative side of the coil, not the positive.

Bill, with a valve job, new rings, and a K torque converter (couldn't find a Z), I can't wait to see how it drives now. Will find out soon (within 2days).
