Dipstick for a wagon/variant, or sedan? I can get a sedan dipstick from the junkyard, if that'd help.

What a load of crap. Make that mechanic replace the dipstick for you. If you had to buy one...those are expensive new..and are hard to find. Chances are....someone around the place needed one for a type 3 project.

Lost parts on customers cars.....  . You should post the name of that place so others can avoid them. Ray

I hate to admit it but I agree with that. This is a mechanic that has always been honest and decent. He served me real well with my type 3 over the years. Unfortunately he has gotten his son into the business lately and lost interest peersonally in a major way and talked lately only of retiring. Each and everytime he (or his son) performed a repair for me lately, I got the car back with more problems. Out of loyalty to past years of good servise, I still went back. This was the last straw, they also broke the sunvisor clip to boot, never again. How would a 412 dipstick be useful in a type3 project?

You should also look on thesamba.com, there is a guy parting out a wagon in New Mexico- he seems to have just about every little part- maybe you could ask him?

Will do, thank you both. Also got a possible one with vwaddict. oh, forgot to mention, they also broke the ign switch and had a "small" engine fire! Never again! If I knew of any possibility of someone going there, I'd post the name and address. But they are a small hidden shop and their vw clientel is bug folks.

I'll get the dipstick out tomorrow. Between the two wagon parts cars I have it was easy to find. Be watching for it. Kevin

Longbeach, what the heck were those guys working on for you? Sounds like they were trying to strip her??? What kinda fire?? Do you know these guys or something? I think they should come up with at least a few bucks or maybe a good small claims court or the peoples court! LOL!
What kinda guys work on your car and burn it down, lol! Dang, they sound like something I would do! LOL! How did they bust the ignition? Sorry for BS man! I know they have the top part offered on ebay and some switches. Did they smoke the wiring?? I do know the fuse panel isnt easy to figure out and its easy to get hot to not! Do you need any Ljet stuff or are you still in working order? Damn and you were getting so close! Good luck! Bill

Othere than the cap which can be swapped....the type 3's dipstick is very similar to the 411/412 wagon. I have used a type 3 dipstick in a type 4. Ray
