LSD's in US Market?

Post by R2.0 »

Did any US market 181's come with an LSD? There is one in a junkyard near here, and before I go to the trouble of crawling under to get the letter code I want to see if I'm chasing shadows.

Thanks

Although no US Things (73-74) Things came with an LSD, my 73 has one. I know this because I put it there. There were some Safaris (type 182) right hand drive that came with LSD. I know this because my friend and neighbor bought one new from a dealer in the UK in 75 that had an LSD... If you found a Thing in a bone yard, strip it clean and enjoy the benefits of your find. There is a good list of parts that are worth salvaging.

I may still grab the tranny if it is an SSC; in the least, the stubs and drive flanges.

Got a link to other goodies adaptable to my Ghia? (I know about floor plans, but that is WAAAY beyond the scope now.)

Alternately, if anyone here needs anything in particular, I might be able to pick it for them.

How much of the front suspension is there? Like an idiot, when I lowered my thing, I got rid of the stock spindles and trailing arms. Now I want to restore the origional ride&height and need parts.
Thanks;

My recollection is that it was basically all there, but I would need to check again.

Although the Thing trans in the wrecking yard will not have a LSD, it most likely will have the highly desireable O type 4.12 R&P. It is still worth pulling the trans.

Bruce offers the advise of a wise man. Pull everything you can that is Thing specific.... The rear arms contain the very valuable 100 mm stub axles CVs and axles. The complete front beam is Thing specific and valuable. The doors and other bolt on parts. And the list goes on... Since I have "blown" a primo bone yard Thing find.. If I am so lucky as to ever have the same fortune again, I will take time off work immediately and strip that baby clean.... I just did that to an 83 944 Porsche that by the way shares a number of common parts with our beloved Thing....
