Terminal descriptions and number for the headlight switch can be found at:

Read the terminal numbers on the switch and put the wire to the correct terminal on your new switch.

One of the many advantages of a VW is that it is wired under the strict guildlines of the German TUV standard. This guarentees facts like a brown wire is a ground wire and so on. It makes tracking wiring on an AC VW possible. On the other hand our cars are old and they are experiencing a very similar set of electrical failures. I got a Thing a few years ago and all of its electrical systems worked perfectly. Now I have a number of electical issue to include a number of electrical parts that have failed. I suspect it is a matter of using the car regularly after the car had a period of no use. I enjoy the challenge. More later, K-mann
