Anyone see "Monster Garage" bug racer build?

Post by vwbill »

Hey, anyone see the New "Monster Garage" bug racer build up in five days where they did 10.57 qtr mile? One of the Guys, Randy Carlson who build the green woody 412 wagen custom was on the show and they actually showed it in his profile! Man what a great VW crew on that project!! One problem they had was the bearing moved so it wasnt aligned with the oil hole and burnt the motor. Is that a big problem with bearings spinning? They cut the v bigger for better lubing(Have to watch it again to see that part) Wonder if that is a mod for the tranny oil issues? bill

Havn't seen it yet, but can't wait!

About the bearing issue... never heard of cutting a deeper V in the bearing to improve oiling to the crank. Sounds a little risky to me...

Better off making external improvements to the oil system IMO.

A full flow with a decent pump will meet most requirements... then go dry sump pumps and external pressure regulation if your taking the car to an extreme level.

What they didnt show was that the engine seized again. They determined the case was bad or something like that.

I just seen when they broke down the engine and the one guy went to his shop since they couldnt get a new bearing on sunday I think. It looked like he cut a "v" deeper in the outside of the main bearing on the lathe that is on the flywheel side. He said earlier that it needed a camber or something so it wouldnt spin, I think? It kinda looked like he was making the area that the oil travelin around the bearing bigger? I was wondering if they made it work again in the time frame and then did a rebuild check before the track. Did you see the smoke that looked like it was coming from the engine area? I was wondering if it was just tire smoke or oil cooler? bill
