1.8 Liter Type Four Engine

Post by wopnick »

When I bought my car the VW Scrapyard guru said my car had a 1.8 liter engine. But from what I've come across 411's were never stock with the 1.8, so my question is, Which air-cooled volkswagen's had a 1.8 liter type four engine? And is there an online source i can check my engine code with to make sure I know exactly what kind of engine I have and does anyone know where i can get hard specs on the engine's themselves?

Go to type4.org, you'll get the whole story. I am pretty positive that all type 4s came with 1.7L motors except last year of production (74). which got a lower compression 1.8L with L-Jetronic FI (mine :( ) Hope this helps, cheers.

Yes, the 412 was available with the 1.7 or 1.8.

If you want to learn more about the car, check out one of my sites:

of this site for the engine:
