well, both wagons are driving great! the only thing, and they both have it, is a slight shimmy at 52 mph (this is on both cars!!!! ) i find it interesting that they both pick it up on accel, sustained or decel from 52-55mph. then, on either side of it, they just glide down the road. also, the kick down switch on the 74 doesn't do its job, but the one on the 73 works perfectly.
all that is left to do on the 73 is bleed the brakes and add new fluid as the old stuff looks old. after that, i am handing the keys over to a young couple that really needs transportation with 2 small children and another on the way!

What rims and tires are on them? If they have been sitting for more than a year and they are stock rims...its the rims that are "spread". It happens to all of them. Also...go through the front ends. Usually slack in the idler bushing, centerlink or radius arm bushigs can also cause that "shimmy". Ray
Did you find the problem (and/or solution) for the shimmy problems? I've got the same problem with my 411.
The wheels are balanced, but not on the car (I heard later, you must balance them on the car).
For the moment the car is stalled because of the winter in Holland, but I will work on the problem when the car comes out.....

Yes...its nice to balance them on teh car...but unecessary. One problem in balanceing is this: If the weight needed to balance at any point hits 1oz....then it must be split and put at both the inside and outside edge of the rim. This is because of the offset of the rim. If not ...you will get a vibration.
Also..if you are using tires or rims wider than stock... then the stock alignment values are no longer correct. You need more toe-in on a wider tire. Ray
I got rid of my shimmy by having the tires balanced on a machine where the wheel are actually bolted up to the balancer. On most balancing machines you are dependent on the center hole being absolutely true for balancing to work, yet there is no guarentee the hole any thing close to true. Most good tire shops have some form of jig that the wheels can be bolted to.
well, after taking the 73 out for a night drive, i am very, very unsure of giving gthe away yet. you can't see out the windshield for all of the sandblasting it has. i mean any street light or oncoming head light is complete white out! so i am trying to see if i can save the window or not. if not, are they still available from some glass supplier like the T3 glass is?
the shimmy was a dragging caliper on the left front. bled system and all is well.
the title issue is with the 74 412 and it still isn't resolved.

I believe new windshields are only available from origlass in Italy, something like $800 shipped! Really, it is a pretty good deal for custom curved glass, but still expensive. You might try polishing the windshield? I don't know how much sandblasting you can polish out... Out of all 6 of my cars, I only have 1 good windshield that is not cracked or delaminating.
well, since i have no sign of ever getting the 74 412 legally titled here in Oregon, I think i am going to part out the car. pity as it is really in great shape. give me a few days to figure up prices and then we can look at what it will take to sell/ship them. if there is someone out there in type 4 land that is willing to take on this title battle, make me a legitimate offer on the car and you could become the new owner. i love the car, but i have run out of temporary permits to use on the car and it is just sitting.
