Auto Tranny Fluid

I have heard that it is real important to use the correct "type" of transmission fluid, or else you could screw up your transmission. I seem to remember from back in the day that there was one type for Ford cars and another type for all others. So...what should we 411/412 devotees use in our rare and wonderous transmissions? Thanks! from Kirk with one 1971 411 wagon, and two 1974 412s.

Anything labled Dexron III or equivalent. Ray
