Unless its really old...and was actually made for the 411...(which I have never heard of)...I would doubt that it is made and will work for the 411/412. The shifter gate is a bit different from the bug. I would bet that you could make it work though. The problem is making sure it can be adjusted properly. The adjustment on type 4 is tricky. Ray

Hey have you seen that Flat 4 tee handle shifter that is on Ebay alot with the wood grain handle(nice lookin)? It says for all air cooler VW's? I thought I even have seen it on someones T4 out there too! I though like Ray said that the 411/412 shifter was hard too adj.(I remember once trying one of those shortin shift kits and toke forever to get it back right) and is different but I guess they made that one work so I wonder if the older hurst ones stated they were for all air cooler VW's??? Can you change out the shift coupler on the end of the shaft? bill

The problem will probably be less of an internal one, than it will be how it bolts to the floor. Theshifter plate on the type 4 is nothing like the bug. Ray

I have a 412 wagon fitted with a modified Type 1 basic short shift kit. Can't remember exactly what was done, but was a simple job, very low cost and it works!
