Did the Cosworth Chevy Vega have Djet FI with a MPS?

Post by vwbill »

Hey check out this Chevy Cosworth Vega on ebay item # 320014422629 .
Check out below the valve cover to the back of the engine, doesn't it look like yellow injectors and a MPS mounted ?? Looks like it has a adjustment plug cover?? Think it's Djet?? bill
p.s. I had a 76 monza with the small block v8 that would smoke the tires for hours off the line, looked kinda like this vega but racer green..no fun gettin to some of the plugs!!

It "looks" like D-jet...but is probably Bendix. I beleive from what others have posted that there was some dispute as to wether Bendix created the design for D-jet and Bosch copied it. Not sure. I have not researched that. But it is clear the Bosch was the first to make production vehicles based around the MPS system. Ray

The reason I asked is that I was wonder if there was another option for the MPS that would work and be more adjustable or have another type of setup and function that might be better or compatable to the djet system for drivablilty....It looks like there is a big cover over the area that the epoxy is on the the vw/porsche mps....Maybe the Bendix unit had a better curve and diapram performance??? I wonder if they used the same control wires or ecu... There is another Cosworth Vega and it has four fuel pressure looking things going over the valve cover??? Do you think it could have had seperate fuel pressure regulators per injector?? Sorry to Put a Chevy sounding question in the 412 forum but it just looked like DJet to me and I was looking because I have owned many different cars and each did have there enjoyable design... If you ever drove a MOnza with a SB v8 at highspeed tonning it plus you get a feel like the 412 at that speed and feel the design element coming out in the car.....I love the design of the 412 and the engineering that make such a car kick ass with a small power plant! Nothing beats the sound of a 412 engine at high rev!! I think TIm Allen says it best!! Insert sounds here.. .....bill

That black cover was actually standard on almost all VW and Porsche MPS's. It was the primary anti-tamper cover. You can turn it all day long and it engages nothing. The only way it can be removed is to break it off. The epoxy was not really an anti-tamper device. It was simply a way of making sure the plug does not back out...because the depth setting of that aluminum plug is a very important adjustment.

The MPS....is actually quite adjustable. There are three adjustments inside of it.
But I know what you are getting it....and that is....if there any different lainspring settings that might give us different performance options.

Really...if you are up to a little work.....there are a decent amount of modifications that can be made to an MPS to change its response. I can't believe no one has really done nothing to explore whatcan be modified.
I read long dull threads of all teh drillings, fillings and jet changes people are willing to do to a carburettor body to get a totally different response.
People are willing to totally rebuild every other fuel injection sensor and tweek it....like: warm up regulators, fuel pumps , fuel pressure regulators, every temperature sensor you can imagine, TPS's.....the list goes on. But no one does anything to teh MPS. Like.....adjustable mainspring pressure. Repositioning of the steel armature on the center spindle to compensate for spring changes. Altering the main chamber volume to change part throttle re-vacuuming response. Ray
