Donations to help pay for this place!

Post by Class 11 streeter »

Hey new STF owner

Two STF owners ago, I would at times snail mail Brian a money order donation as a small thanks to him for this site.

Now, I am in the PayPal age, as are many here, and perhaps the time has come to have the ability for users to donate to help the STF cause.

Whaddya think?
So you think your project is taking forever eh? Well you've got nothing on me.....

Boys, boys.... what standup guys! As much as I appreciate the suggestion and the offer, donations to the site are currently unnecessary. You two will be first on my list if funding becomes an issue.

Much more needed is assistance with the site and it's future development. Notwithstanding the great work done by many of the current moderators on the individual forums, I need help with the technical aspects of the website.

I am looking for someone to help me learn php, the code with which this board is built. That means I need someone to implement, code wise, several of my current ideas and teach me how to do several "basic tasks" which I can't do now. This needs to be a very computer saavy individual.

I'm also looking to have a tech article section and need some authors to do, at least, the initial writing and digital picture taking. I really feel this would distnguish STF and be enjoyed by many, many users. I think it's almost the only thing that the two magazines do that keeps me subscribing. (The ads in the mags are sometimes better than the content!)

Finally, I think I am going to try and form a sort of permanent commitee (maybe revolving membership), to oversee the site and take it forward into the future. You might spread the word among your pals and see if anyone is interested in any of these "donations".

Again, thanks a lot for your financial offer. I truely do appreciate your support.

Two words: Tom Slider, and if he don't know, he knows who does.......he goes by "tuna" here on STF.

I did a search about money donations. I was wanting to donate because I sold some parts on our classified forum. Last post to this thread was June 2004. Need any money yet ? Beer money? Thanks

regis101,

Another rich guy to add to my list. Oh boy! You guys will regret this altruism someday when I come calling.

Seriously, thanks to regis101 and the many others on this thread and otherwise who have volunteered their time and their money. I really do appreciate it.

Currently, we are in the process of changing servers and completely rebuilding the site. I have finally found the team of technical folks who are able to manage the site the way it needs to be done. This means a few bucks more out of my pocket and, if it gets too expensive, I may have to find a way to raise funds. But right now the boat's still afloat. I hope that over the next few months, as the site migrates and is rebuilt, we will be able to add enhancements that many have suggested for some time. Stay tuned .......

All advertising has been eliminated and it is simply my hope that folks enjoy STF and aircooled VWs. At least for now, STF is my modest contribution to the hobby.

Thanks again for the offer. Really appreciate it.

What is really needed is an expert at phpbb software that this board runs on. phpbb is the software that a lot of other internet boards run on. It is free, but quite sophisticated. However, it ain't your mama's html.

For a person who is expert in phpbb, doing what our board needs is child's play. Probably requiring only a few hours a month to do. If that person could work with me (the lowly, only understand a little sort) a lot of new things might be accomplished.

But, finding this help has been elusive. I've been through two teams, but one was not capable and one was overkill in the extreme. Neither is a long term solution.

So, there you have it. Find a person running another similar board or a real phpbb pro who will work for love and we're in business.
