Substituting Thing Parts

I recently was in contact with a person who told me they plan to use a marine wiper motor on a Thing. I asked them for details on their installation. Along those lines I was thinking it might be a very cool thread to have other Thing owners list their innovations using other parts to susstitue for hard to find, rare or expensive Thing parts.
