pro street thing..

Post by ej73thing »

Hey all, I'm new to this site and I have a 73 thing but I have a need for speed. My goal is to make at least 200hp, and yes I'm building a turbo motor. I know there are many posts about this but what should I do as far the transmission, axles etc?. I have a IRS but I'm not going to beat on it at the track every weekend, but I want it to last on the street. Any advice or help, options, tricks, parts etc is geatly appreciated.
Thanks, Eric

hi,

first what kind of motor will you be running. this will depend on what trans axel you will be running. as a general rule swing axles are more durable because of less moving parts. i dont know much about things but i think there is going to be some clearance issues with your motor because of the smaller engine compartment.

thanks,bo

There's a legendary figure in the Thing world known as
John Tritle, from Pennsylvania, who has/had a drag-race Thing.
Evidently, he could go in excess of 100mph.

Not sure if he monitors this forum or not.

His email was/may still be:
hh74thng@innernet.net

Hope he doesn't mind this mention.

Good Luck

The WRX Subaru motor with a bus 091 trans will gie you the power asn speed you talk about. Kennedy makes a trnasaxle adapter plate that allows the mating of these two units.

cool, thanks for the replies...I'm more than likely going to be running a 2054 or 2110 with a turbo kit.

Please listen when I say this.. PPAPPP.

It is a sage acronym. Prior Planning Aviosa Piaa Poor Performance.

Before you build a 2110 (good engine choice) pick the brains from the collective of the STF forum. Between the engine and trans forum you will get the best bang for your buck. More than a few years ago, i had a project in mind and as a result of the folks on the two afore mentioned forums, I built a very special car. It developed from the joined knowledged of those that had done it right and wrong. Figure your budget and your end goal and within the limits build your dream car.
