ok last night was in the 412 and the engine gave way with a sickning clunking sound and finaly total lock up not totaly sure whats gone?
to me it sounds like a bigend but could be a piston
right the questions is this
would my 1700 injection system run a 2lt type 4 engine or would the ecu need changing what else could be involved as i know a 2lt for sale but its twin carbed can i swap over the manifolds and throtle body and go???
also i have a spare 1700 engine from a 412 so i could put this straight in but i am considering having it rebuilt as its a daily car for sharon and my little girl so i would like to know how good it is befor i swap it all over
My guess is that the ecu will be ok, the intake may not be optimum but the fuelling will likely be correctable with a tweak of the FP and maybe the MAP sensor. Ray is your best bet here. I think I read the D-jet had a specific cam, maybe you can pull this (with indexed lifters) out of the 1.7l engine???
If the 2.0l has hydro's, it might run crap as the vacuum strength wanders.

If the engine was either D-jet or L-jet....the cam is the same if its the stock cam. You should not ever reuse the stock cam. It was not great as it came from the factory. D-jet was tehsystem that was most sensitive to cam timing. Since L-jet was not sensitive and came later, they simply used teh same cam for both. After about 1970...since the early 411 used slightly different intake valve timing....but is still readily interchangable....all cams for D and L jet were identical in lift, duration and intake valve timing (except for hydraulic). This also does not include Euro cams used in the 914....though their valve timing was also the same, lift and duration was different. The cams with bus part numbers that may have used diferent intake valve timing...are not acceptable for use with D-jet.
The web # 73 is an excellent cam for D-jet. It utilizes teh factory valve timing from teh early 411. An even better choice would be one of Jakes variants on teh Web 73. Ray
You can simply run the 1700 injection system on a 2.0. Yes....it would be better to have 2.0 runners, but no biggee. Its also best to snag some 2.0 injectors and teh 2.0 MPS. But you can simply adjust fuel pressure up and then adjust MPS...cause you will need to anyway.
Yes...you can run carbs if you must. Ray
