Hi there it has been quite some time since I posted anything on the forum …..any way I have been trying to get hold of the guys from reVoLKS about the seals they have been making for type 4 cars. I know they have been talked about on the forum , but I have sent several emails to them both to the company and to Jeff Hamilton. I really would like to order some seals as our New Zealand dollar is quite good against the US dollar right now . The trouble is I have not been getting a reply from them do you know if they are still trading or is there another way of getting hold of them such as a phone number?......I am 75% of the way through painting my 412 Ls and would like to use new seals in the rebuild. I hope to post some pics soon of the strip down and rebuild....which is taking far longer than I thought.....but not as long as it might...
If you could help that would be really great as I can see our dollar slipping against the strong US dollar soon…….
Yours
Nick Sparrow

I was wondering if a local window shop could replicate our seals?? Can they look them up in a book for style and construct them from scratch?
I tried a business white pages look up for there mailing address but couldn't find them?? Bill
p.s. I wonder if we could find there vw club and get them that way??

Ok.....this is hard to explain...and I have no photos at the moment, but is an excellent solution, looks like factory, is cheap.
The only thing stopping you from using a windshiled gasket from a late superbeetle....is the cross section of the center part of the gasket.
Lets see if I can illustrate.....

This angle is what the cross section of the body looks like where the gasket snaps into. Ther lower horizontal dotted line leg is where the "V" lip hooks around the inside to hold the windshield in. The dotted line sections...are where the differences from gasket to gasket are.
In general....the type 4 gasket is slightly deeper with reference to where teh vertical heavy dotted line is......and also shallower with reference to where the lower horizontal dotted line is. But..the glass groove and the inside flap are essentially the same. The solid line represents the outside visible part of the body where the out "flap" part of the gasket lays over the body....With me so far?
But...on something like a superbeetle gasket....the outer flap is long enough to lap over the outer solid line part of the body...even after you have added something...to the body groove...to fill in the gap.
So...picture this.....

Yes...its really crude in this sketch...but all you really need are strips of rubber or plastic about 1/8-3/16" thick. You install one around the vertical line and the other....if needed....on teh bottom. It makes up for the difference in teh middle thicknesss of a superbeetle gasket. It looks like factory from teh outsdie when installed and seals perfect. Since th gasket is also more flexible ...it works very well on the quarter windows as well . You will need to join two superbeetle gaskets to do this.
The material for the rubber strips is easy to get. It is ribbed "V" belt like what you use for a serpintine belt. Slit it to just under 1/2" in width. drill holes every 6". Use sealer behind the belt...and then pop rivet the belt into the two locations on the seal groove. Lubricate and install glass like normal. Ray
