voltage regulator and alternator tests for '78

Post by woboyto »

My 1978 FI campmobile isn't charging its battery anymore and i was wondering what steps i should take to determine whether it is the voltage regulator or alternator. I have tow manuals but neither of them explain the test for the voltage regulator i have. My voltage regulator sits on the firewall and has three plugs D+, DF, and D-. I don't really know how else to explain it. The alternator connections are under a shroud too so its hard to work with those. Thanks.

Do you have a Bentley manual, they have a pretty good section for testing. I don't bother, just take the regulator to the local part store and have them test it. If it is okay drag out the alt and they can test it. Oh yea, make sure it isn't your battery first.

NAPA does all of that and it is free.

Thanks busman. I didnt know that they could test those things. That sure does sound a lot easier.
