2 questions on '72 VW 'campmobile'

Post by jlvikes »

Hello,

I'm brand new to this forum and just last week purchased a 1972 VW camper. It runs fine and I'm going to start trying to clean things up on it.

There are 2 things that I want to address first:

1) The sliding door's track is rusted and therefore the door comes off the track. Does anybody have any suggestions for something like this?

2) When braking the van seems to pull to the left. Again, could somebody steer me in the direction on what exactly I should be looking at?

Thanks!

The sliding door track will take some welding, parts are available for this. You might try BusBoys or Bus Depot.

The brakes could be several things. A stuck caliber is likely. It would probably behoove you to do a full brake job on your van, including replacing all cylinders and all the flex hoses. Being able to stop in a straight line dependably is really sweet.
