timing is way off now...

Post by vwfye »

i was checking the timin on my L jet set up as the car was running like crap. i have the idle timing set at 8 btdc and at 2800 rpm i now have a total timing of 45btdc    before it would go up to 37btdc at no load and 2800rpm... i expected a failure the opposite direction for timing... any ideas how to fix this issue?

It sounds like you have a broken or weakened spring inside of the distributor. It also could be a worn pivot on one of the weights . Do you also have vacuum advance? Ray

yeah... i'm guessing the FI brain was thinking the car needed much more fuel than it did... this could very well explain the 8-11mpg i was getting recently!
