Greetings all! I need the nose piece for the auto-trans that goes to my '74 412. It is the piece that has rubber on it and fits into the hole in the car to hold the FRONT of the tranny up. It's a LONG story of how I lost the original. Just let me know what you'd want for one.
Thanks!
Dale
Does anyone have an auto trans nosepiece?

When you get one and re-install it...bear in mind that when it is properly installed and adjusted...the bushing should not be touching the sides of that hole in the rear suspension member. This rear mount should have "0" weight or load on it. It actually is a bump stop and has nothing to dowith suspending the transaxle. If in fact you do use it to suspend tehtransaxle the life of teh tranny can be really short. It is simply a bumper.

Oh..forgot to mention. The adjusters are like this:
Side to side...is done via the outer body nounts on the rear mustache bar. You will notice that each is held to the body by a pair of vertical bolts that are bolted to captive nuts in each outer mount. Loosen them and you can slew the entire engine driveline package side to side and somehwat front and back.
If you need extra side to side...and front to back...loosen teh outer vertical bolts at each mustache bar mount....and...loosen the two vertical bolts that hold teh mid bar over the transaxle.
When under teh car...looking up at the mid hanger bar at the tranny...you will see three bolts on each side that are accessable with a ratchet, 13mm socket and about 36" of extension bar.
The two outer ones on each side of the tranny hold the hanger bar to the body. The two inner ones on each side..one on each side of each hanger bushing...bolt teh bushings to teh bar.
Underneath each hanger bushing....is a stack of shims!...Bet you never knew that....its not in any book. These shims..about four each side ofvarying thickness....are used to set the height of the drivetrain package so the tailcone bushing is centered in the hole.
You also have vertical "cant" or slope adjustment via the vertical nut and bolt on each outside mount of the mustache bar in the rear.
Perhaps I should go through an entire alignment procedure as a sticky...because it must be done for both auto and four speed. Ray
