Whats it worth???? (pics now!)
I'm a family first kinda guy, and with that said, I need to abandon the 412. It sucks....I really don't want to, but I have goals that focus around the family, not a silly VW.
So....I have no clue what it's worth. I've got about 4k in it, and know I wont get that for it.
Here are the specs:
73 412 Variant
59k miles
OG down to the OEM red vac. hoses on the engine.
only rust is a small 2x2" square under the gas pedal and the lower drivers side front fender.
three perfect (one NOS, only been painted, never installed) rear fenders.
EMPI/Thunderbird header/quiet pack
ORIGINAL Empi Sprint Stars (need refinished)
15x5.5 Chrome wheels w/ moon caps
new 135SR15's on the front
new H4 headlights (centers have yellow lamin-x)
type 3 roof rack
all red taillights
new electronic ignition
new deep sump
new CV boots
new brake pads
new wheel bearings all around
new brake hoses on the front
slightly lowered via cut springs
new valve cover gaskets
car runs AWESOME. everything works, even the gas heater, although it needs cleaned out...I fired it up for about 30 seconds...got some smoke. I put 2k miles on it in 18 days during may. I even have the OG owners manual with the dealer stamps, as well as the little embossed card from the original owner.
So.....gimme a few guesses...what do you guys think it's worth?
Pics can be found in the introduce yourself section.
Thanks guys.

STOP!......Your family always comes first...always....agreed!.
I have one question:
Is it the money you need for the car....or do you just need to be spending time with the family for some time to come....and have no time for this car?
Why do I ask?
Because even though 411's and 412's seem to be coming out of the woodwork....they are few and far between and what parts are also coming out of the woodwork.....hard to find parts like suspension, body and transmission.....this is kind of like the second "golden age" of the 411/412. It will pass....and not come again.
There are several who have had to make tehsame choice you have on this forum...and we have worked hard to talk them into not selling their cars.
Later...when life settles down.....you will not have this opportunity again. Its not an issue of money in that case....its an issue of availability and completeness.
I myself have run into this. My car has been staionary with no engine...under a tarp ...since late 2002.
After I got rid off my first one and had years before I could find another....I vowed not to let this one slip away until Icould fix it. I just get to much satisfaction from it.
Park it. For what you ahve in it and as complete as it is....you will get little useful back in $.....compared to the leg up you will have when you have time to come back to it.
Who knows...you might want to work on it with your children.
You own it. No payments. Cover it and preserve it. Worry later....but keep it for when you have time.
Just my humble opinion. Ray

Ray,
I'm in Iraq as you know. In the not so very near, but closer than I am sure I realize I will be doing a lot of moving.
I return back to Fort Polk, LA (duty station) around Feb. 15th 2009.
Wife is in Ohio, with the 412 and the rest of the VW's.
Feb. 20th 2009 or so she'll be moving to Louisiana.
July 19th-ish 2009 we'll be moving to San Antonio for about 2 months.
September 19th-ish 2009 we'll be moving to Washington DC for about 10 months.
July 2010 we'll be moving where ever the Army sends me.
The problem is the kids. My wife doesn't have full custody at this point because at the time of the divorce her ********* ex-husband got em' because she was in the Army. Now they are 4 and 5 and she is obviously long out of the Army. (She was out before I was in.)
We want custody due to some issues that have arisen.
That means I need the extra $....so the car kinda has to go because the Jetta Wolfsburg Coupe with the motor swap is more reliable...but not as much fun.
See what I mean?
I don't want to get rid of it, but have to.

What's a fair price and what you will get are two different things. There are not that many people who know of these cars and fewer looking for one, so finding a buyer at anything more than a give away price is pretty hard. Keep it if you possibly can.DocLong wrote:Think $3500 is a fair price? I've got more than I thought into it....somewhere around $4500-4800.

Thats kind of what I was saying. If I had the cash to spend...I would give you what you want for it....but I don't.
I'm just afraid that liquidating it...will get you only what the market will bear at the moment...which may be very low. The demand is just not there yet. Its been growing...but still not there yet. Ray

Ray, I understand what you are saying bro...
I can either sell it or my 87 Jetta. The Jetta is beautiful. Needs almost nothing. Was repainted in 2006, and the rear emblems were shaved. It's got Corrado SLC seats, an OBD 2 2.0L, and all the little doo-dads one could ever want, including brand new BBS RS' wheels. Needless to say, it really can't go anywhere given the fact that it's done.
It makes me sad, but it's already on the samba, my local VW board, and will soon go to craigslist, followed by Ebay.

Well, seems as though I would accept ANY reasonable offer at this point. Decided to leave my wife, and since this is her favorite car....it could go a lot cheaper than one might think.....offers please.

Wow, that's good to hear. Was all for a second there.DocLong wrote:Wow, i screwed that post up. Not leaving the wife like divorcing her. Leaving her in Ohio while I attend school in Texas for two months. Need the cash so I can move my things, since the Army won't be paying for it (since she's not going.)
My "too poor" comment still stands.

Car will go for $2500 if any one is interested. Seems I wasn't so wrong in that post....or i predicted something on accident.
Seems my wife has another man living with her while I am deployed. My life is in shambles, the car must go.
Dont like $2500....make an offer. It's in Dayton, Ohio. I wouldn't hesitate to drive it a thousand miles, so dont bring a trailer.
