runs like........well ya know

Post by oldtimer »

Got a 72 411 1700cc w/dual carbs. Engine is fresh & carbs are synched. This car will start right up & idle great, however will barely run once ya let the clutch out & push on the gas. Of course the person who sold me this car for cheap put an 009 w/a pertronix in it & I am thinking this may be part of the problem. All of the A/C stuff has been removed & I believe most of the Factory F/I stuff as well so.......... I am thinking recheck the valve adjustment & timing &/or try to find a vacuum advance dist for it. Any ideas???

Yes, the 009 is not really set up correctly for a type 4. Also, is all esle stock? What model of carbs does it have....what is the part # on them? Ray

The carbs are Solex H40/44eis. The only other mod I am aware of (other than the conversion to carbs & 009)is the dual quitpack style header. I noticed Ray that you are in Fairfax, Va. Interesting to hear from you as I live in Fairfax as well. I will go thru the basic stuff (valve adj, timing, etc) just to check it out this weekend coming up & LYK. If you know where I can find a good used dist I can use w/dual carbs..............

Thanks

I will check my stuff. I have quite a few EFI distributors which are excellent...just leave teh trigger points disconnected for the D-jet.

I am building and engine right now. Sadly it will be a few months before my 412 gets here. I have to finish the engine...ship it to Dallas along with a few other parts...then goback...install it...and drive it here. Then I will be looking for places locally to rent as work space. Ray

Well,I checked the valves & timing & all appears OK ..........Still runs pretty crappy once off idle. Next step is to contact Ray & get a dist. I guess. Have to figure out where to hook it up if I stick w/the dual carbs as well. 8)
