I'm pretty sure my fuel pump has died... subsequently car won't start.
You can hear the relays click when you raise the ignition and you get voltage to the pump. Tap the pump and it gives a vague attempt at doing something before it dies again. Disconnected the pump and hooked it up to another power supply and it just lays there doing nothing...
Therefore is there another pump that is easily available for the D Jetronic 412 or am I going to have to try and source a genuine one from somewhere...so far no luck with finding one.

Just narrow it down to what it does (parameter wise) and many will work.
The reason why D-jet pumps need no feeders is because they have high volume throughput with only moderate pressure. These pumps are as capable of high pressure as a CIS pump....but...they have a relief valve that keeps them from going that high. They vent to keep throughput volume up. They could be made to be high pressure by eliminating the relief valve and instead putting acheck valve in....but then they would need a feeder.
Look for a pump that puts out at least 1 liter per minute at 50 psi.....and has proper hose hook ups. Any L-jet pump will work.....most digifant pumps will work...though the digifant pumps require a feeder.
CIS pumps will work...but some require a feeder (late) and some do not (early large). Both are not cheap but are bulletproof and readily available. I have never tryed the CIS pump without check valve in D-jet. It should do the trick and may negate needing a feeder.Ray

Rushed around like a blue arsed fly Saturday to collect the pump and drop it off at the garage to discover that their numpty novice had tried to be helpfull by removing all the pipes under the fuel tank because they looked perished BUT he neglected to note which one went where
So my plans for going to a VW show for the weekend where cancelled as they had no pipe and no clue where the pipes were meant to go either...
If someone could let me know so I can pass on the relevant info I'd appreciate it as I want my car back.
I know the pump is labelled with an 's' 'd' and 'r' and I know the 's' is fed from the tank via the filter and then the 'd' goes to the engine, I think along the right hand side pipe that goes the length of the car, and finally the 'r' is the return into the "Y" piece which splits to the pump and tank.
However which side does the baffle go on, feed or return, and have I got it correct that the feed is the right hand side of the car when viewed from the rear of the car (I would say off-side and near-side but you guys drive on the wrong side so...)
Cheers Shawn

I cont know if it makes any difference for left or right hand drive. The pipes are labeled like this:
S is for suction. That one comes from the right hand spigot on the tank. In other words...the one that goes to the fuel filter is the one coming FROM the tank.
D is for discharge. That goes to the fuel line running down the right hand side of the car....the one that comes in the right hand side of the engine compartment feeding cylinders #1 and 2.
R should be the last lable. It is for return. That one hooks to the "Y" fitting that also goes to the leftside spigot of the tank.
