injector seals

Post by justinshelton »

Because I hate walking to a parts store and looking like the dweeb that I am, can you let me know exactly what to ask for at the parts counter to get the late '80s Saab 900 CIS injector seals?

Alternatively, is this Ebay item the right thing? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Standard ... dZViewItem

This is in response to Ray's suggestion on a better replacement. He wrote: "The stock injector seals are high rpm vacuum leaks waiting to happen. Change them out for CIS style "donut" seals. They are cheaper and fit tighter. See if you can get the brown or green viton ones used on early 80's Saab 900's with CIS. "

Thanks!

The Viton seals are about a buck apiece, and available ~anywhere, I think I got a set from NAPA recently, just had to wait a few hours.

Replying so I can find the thread later and insert the bosch part#.

Don't bother with the std seals unless it's an emergency.

The Saab 90 seals on e-way are not the right ones. Pretty mush ANY vehicle that had CIS injection will have these seals.
Read that as eary to mid 80's fuel injected VW, Audi, Saab and some Volvo.
The seals for an 83 Saab 900....will be CIS. Ray

Ooooh yeah! The green ones are viton. So are the chocolate brown ones. the black ones will seal just as well...but can't handle heat as well so they have a shorter life...which is still at least as long as any other stock seal. Ray

When I went looking for replacement seals for my car, none of the parts guys I talked to could find me the correct ones, nor did the word 'viton' ring a bell with them. Uneducated buffoons (great word, eh? ) So......does anyone have a NAPA part number, or equivalent that I could quote to the guys up here?

Thanks,

Travis

Simply ask for injector seals for an 83 Saab 900. They only had CIS on them in those years. Most were viton, but thats really less improtant than the seal itself, especially on our cars. On the Saab...the injector seal was in a place thatwas a good deal hotter than it gets on ours. Ray

They should have been able to cross the Bosch part number above as well.

Have the injector seals

Post by justinshelton »

Hi, Guys:

I picked up the injector seals for an '83 Saab 800 at Napa. I asked for 4.

I now have 4 boxes, each with two little O-rings in them, so 8 o-rings total.

I just need one o-ring on each injector, right? not two? I'm just replacing the o-ring where the nipple of the injector goes into the head and not the larger o-ring that the metal clamp pushes on to hold the injector in.

Sorry to be so lta on this...but be careful with the NAPA seal kit. I know of no CIS injectors that use two seals. A few may have used an alignment seal or grommet, but because CIS was high presure they do not have an o-ring seal to teh fuel line or rail. They all used pressure unions.
It sounds like you may have gotten a kit for an electronic injector with a seal for the tip and a seal for the fuel rail.
If they git your Saab seals mixed up...they may have easily gotten you seals for a 16 valve model which came out just a couple years later. Those were EFI and used two seals per injector...and are not the seals you want. Ray

The seal kit I referred to is for the air shroud injectors for an 84 Rabbit>88? Cabriolet, and it has 3, the fat one, a large flat one for the outer part of the air shroud, and the small graphite coated one for the air shroud tip on the injector itself. NAPA has these.

Buy the Viton injector orings too, they're GREEN. NAPA doesn't have them AFAIK. They cost a couple bucks,

Just ask for 77-83 Rabbit seals in a pinch.

Ah...forgot about those. Its been a while since I worked on a rabbit with CIS. Got used to my Saab and some volvos...with its quirky mount and single o-ring. Ray
