Euro clear/amber lense: has anyone seen these before?

Post by SureFit Travis »

Hi folks,

Found this ad on theSamba, and was wondering if anyone has seen these before? It appears to me to be a type-4 lense, and I recall seeing something like these before......but can't quite remember where, or on what.

Any guesses?

Travis

I believe the Italian versions had different lights but it is not a 'regular' european version

Yes, I believe all cars sold in the Italian market had to have white/clear parking lights in the front. I've seen similar solutions in other cars too.

Here's a pic:

This is one for the 411.

The one for the 412 is complete white.

Thanks guys! I knew I had seen them before....I just couldn't recall which region they were intended for. I will let the seller know what he has (along with a link to this thread), and that he can now list it accordingly!

Are you specifically looking for these clear/amber lenses? If you go over to thesamba.com/vw, and search for the member/username of Terry Gaudet, he might still have that lense. He lives in Moncton, New Brunswick, on the east coast of Canada.

By the way, i have never seen these clear lenses for 412. Perhaps the italian regulations changed in the early 70's and so the 412 had the usual amber lenses.

Travis, I'm looking for the 412 indicators, I guess the clear/amber ones are for 411?

Lathi; never seen them myself, just read about them in this tread...

I've seen several times clear lenses in 60's and 70's cars that have been tuned with modern taste. I guess you could buy some silicone to make molds and cast these lenses yourself? Might be cool! Perhaps i'll try this sometime. I saw some tutorial how to do this, on DIY network. Perhaps it's possible to order some kind of kit for this purpose? Casting didn't look too complicated.

I have been looking for a set of N.O.S. front turn signal indicators for my 412, and haven't had much luck. Of course, I am looking for all-amber, as I don't know if there were clear/amber ones for the Italian 412's (as Lahti411 mentioned). I see that Joanna Jaime of the Phillipines was advertising some N.O.S. 411 lenses, but not 412 lenses. Then again, I have read a few stories of negative dealings with her....

I've been thinking exactly the same! :D
Are you going to Bug Run, might be fun meeting fellow type4 entusiasts!

Here's a simple tutorial for casting the lenses:

I'm not sure if i have the time to go to the bug run. I've been planning a road trip from southern Finland to Lapland and further to Norway and Sweden. If i have enough time for such a trip perhaps i should time it so that i could visit the bug run too. Hmmm...

If you're planning on going somewhere in southern Norway (I live in Gjovik, 130 km north of Oslo), send me an pm. We are having our own aircooled meeting the last weekend of may.

The spring is going to be horribly busy for me so i'm quite sure i'm not able to have the trip in may. But June might be possible and so i might have time for the bug run.
