All of the TB's for 1.7 and 1.8 on 411/412 and 914 were the same basic casting with only part # variations being for those with different vacuum drillings. The 1.8 and 2.0 bus with the larger plenum (I think 1.8 was different)...used a TB that has the same mount and will bolt right up to a 1.7/1.8 411/412/917 1.7L plenum.

The only mod needed is to expand the opening smoothly on the plenum by about 2-3mm. Use a simple tail pipe expander and it takes 5 minutes and looks like factory.
The advantages are: positive return coil spring that is MUCH better than the hose spring that the 1.7L used. It also has replaceable shaft seals and an o-ringed idle screw. It is also about 2-3mm larger.
It made a noticable improvement on my 1.7L with a web-73.
The outer "bell" on the 2.0 TB is about 2+mm larger in diameter and will eventually split the snorkel..... been there....done that.

I think the only design changes I would make to the snorkel would be a groove and lip at the TB end for the stock VW band clamp....to keep it centered and straight
The other cool thing to do would be to cast in a .010" thick strip of etched teflon on the inside for where the mouth contacts the TB and the air cleaner to keep it stiff and make it slide off and on easily. It would not be visible from the outside. Ray

Wow Ray. I'll take a snorkel for a wagon when you get to it. Cooling bellows would be great too.

I'm brazinging up some bends out of 2.5 inch thin wall exhaust pipe, will braze in a .5 inch pipe for the AAR hose. I can put about an inch between the TB and the pipe with a 2.5 inch 3 ply silicone collar, and a bit longer btween the air cleaner and the pipe with the same silcone hose as a second collar, should give it enough wiggle and squish that the air cleaner will sit still. The hose compresses well under clampage at the smaller 1.7 TB.

The 3 ply silicone hose guys can fab up all sorts of bends and breather hose plugs, but y're pro'ly right about the $$$

No luck finding a 2.0L TB just yet. A guy wrote me saying he had one but wouldn't sell it. ha. Found one from a manual, will have to drill the port for the auto modulator and press in a piece of pipe for the hose. Did get a decent 1.7TB--at least I can no longer see daylight around the butterfly when it's closed, so that's a help.
