Return of the 411NUT Native
Well, it seems like ages, if not eons ago, since I last visited here.
Old blue eyes is still parked where it is in the avatar, but someone drove by and tried to pop out some of those old blue eyes - the side window next to the driver and the quarter-deck window on the same side - with a BB gun!
If anyone knows where replacements can be had, I'd appreciate the tip. Meanwhile, the insurance company is looking under 'Classics', not being able to find anything under 'Run-of-the-Mill'. I'm sure the search will drive them nuts - 411NUTS!

Business Opportunity!
Anyone who can supply replacement glass for old blue eyes will be able to name their price (within 'reason', whatever that means) when I give them my insurance company contact info. They will buy it and ship it from whoever can supply it. Otherwise, they'll have to do a complete write-off - and the last price I saw for a great 1971 411 LE with AC (running) like old blue eyes was $6000!
For anyone who supplies a bona fide lead which leads to a purchase, there will be a 'Finder's Fee' (to be negotiated).
As they say in Las Vegas and at Goldman Sachs: Money talks!
Here is what a tiny BB (see hole in red circle) can do to a window:

Thanks for letting me know, Matt. Can you get a quote for packaging/shipping both windows to Los Angeles? I will then notify the insurance company and let them know that efforts to get the glass locally were unsuccessful. Shipping should be by a shipping company to any of the Ports of Los Angeles, Long Beach or San Pedro. Or, it could be shipped to an East Coast Port and then cross-country by truck. I could do the pick-up myself at any of the LA area Ports. You might also get an Air freight quote for comparison. Insured value should be 2x the cost of the shipment. If the cost is high enough, the insurance company may 'total' the car at its present (insured) market value. Too soon to know right now.
Once I get a quote from you and a go-ahead from the insurance company, I'll be prepared to make a commitment. Be sure to include your personal expenses in the quote!
Just to be sure, this is a 1971 model. I can send you the VIN (Vehicle Identification Number) if you need it.
Pete

Thanks, Matt, Albert and Ray!
I followed up with car-part.com and found a Salvage Yard in SF who have the 2 windows (that's a lot closer than the UK!) Albert, that site is the best I ever saw for used parts. Thanks for the lead!
They gave me a price of $65 for each window.
The insurance glass installer is now following up with the insurance Co to get approval for shipping, etc.
Ray (or anyone else), if you find a source closer and/or cheaper please post it here and I will give the insurance people the new source.
Thanks heaps!

So the saga continues. After a few false alarms, the right glass was finally tracked down in..............Tulsa, OK! Well, that's still a lot closer than the UK. Meanwhile, old blue eyes has one cardboard eye - peripheral vision - to keep out the tumbleweeds and rain. If all goes well and ends well, old blue eyes will have full vision restored in about 2-3 weeks. Stay tuned!

Wait....very odd.....I know of a really "hairy" junk yard in Tulsa right near the entrance to the highway 44 turn pike. They at one time had at leat 10 411/412 out there with grass up to the roof...snakes everywhere. A defunct junkyard at best on private property. Really shifty bunch of guys. The cars were total basket cases. They were kind of shifty. I bought nothing. It was 10 years ago. Got a name on this place? Ray

I HATE snakes - especially the ones that hide in tall grass, bite and dangle from 411s! Judging from their website, though, I think I'm safe.
Here it is: http://www.eastwestautoparts.com/ They only have 1 411 on their lot.

Well folks, Old Blue Eyes recently had his (peripheral) vision restored to 20/20. He can see clearly now - and so can the driver! Somewhere in Tulsa, OK is a tired old 411 - crying his eyes out. I suppose that's good news for the local snakes! Oh, yeah - he also got a new battery. Anyone ever try to replace the battery when the front seat 'mechanics' are no longer working? You need to remove (unbolt) the seat anchor and even then it's a tight squeeze to extract the old battery and insert the new one.
