Deck/HeadUnit wiring

Post by freekazoid »

Regarding my '70 ghia: Right now my stereo head unit turns on when the emergency flasher is switched on. I think this wiring setup is also causing my emergency fuse to blow if i turn it on without the ignition on.

What should my head unit be tapped into for ignition and power?

Also my gauges turn on when my emergency flasher turned on, is this normal? Also sometimes my head unit turns off and then turns right back on, i'm hoping this is related to its current wiring setup and will be resolved with everything else.

Thanks.

Can you tell us where the power wires, and ground wires are hooked up to now?
Hot, humid air is less dense than cooler, drier air. This can allow a golf ball to fly through the air with greater ease, as there won't be as much resistance on the ball.

Off the top of my head the "ignition" wire for the deck is tapped into a black wire going to from the emergency flasher to the ignition switch. I will have to look when i get home what the power of the deck is tapped into.

If you can post the terminal numbers to what everything is hooked to now.

:D cool name. it sounds like you have your main power and ignition switched wires hooked up wrong. Hook your memory wire up to a fused dedicated permanent live and run the switched wire to large diameter switched igniton source ( ore use a relay fuse combo from the battery.

I think you were right. I finally got in there today and found that the red wire that on my diagrams lead to the headlight switch was instead going to the fuse box, I think it is supposed to go to terminal 30 on the headlight switch. But my switch is confusing. It is this one.

There seems to be two 58 terminals and three 30 terminals contrary to the diagram i've been working with :( Of course there is the 58b terminal and two 57 terminal. I can see from another diagram that one 30 terminal goes to the fuse box, another to voltage regulator (now my alternator) and the third to the ignition. But what about the two 58 terminals? And two 57 terminals? They aren't marked on any diagrams i've been looking at.

So I moved the ignition wire from going to the fuze box to one of the 30 terminals. The car started up, all the lights worked, asides from my left headlight which burnt out the other week ( a causality of faulty wiring i assume) I drove it home, about a 15 minute drive, the power was fine but when i got into the garage i park in the car died. There was no power anywhere, even the lights wouldnt turn on. Not sure what i did, I was a little frustrated and just pushed and left it for the day. Not really looking forward to opening the hood for a while. I suppose this is really a general electrical thread now. Thanks for the tip freak.

This thread should help you with understanding wiring terminal numbers.
