There was a few things. The ring gaps were all over, the piston to wall clearance may have been to much, and I think the cylinders may not have been honed enough and glossed over quickly.

I have bought a new set of Mahle P&Cs from CB with the fogred pistons. Hopefully I'll be back on track pretty soon

I stress honed my Mahles on a Sunnen machine once when they were new and never looked back.I have never understood why people hone their barrels without the correct torque.

do you also do your barrel's metrology on this machine to check diameter/ovalization values and clearance with pistons?
did you ever compare values with and without the good torque?

Not to jack the thread, but since we are on the subject, i have a set of high dollar JE's on the way and i want to send them out to be honed correctly. Anyone know of a place they would trust to this?

Yes and Yes. The barrels warp when you torque them and especially so if you choose to use a bit more torque than recommended. I believe I have the values stored somehwere and I will see if I can find them. As a part of my "winter service" schedule I always measure end play and leak. During the 5 years I tortured my little mouse the leak never rised above 5%.
