Coyotemutt, your fuel pump setup is the same as this 1600 I built. Basically boost reference the bottom of the stock pump diaphragm chamber.

Have you changed your needle/seat (fuel inlet) valves in the Kadrons? The stock ones are a 1.50mm size. When you start getting into bigger jetting and fuel demands like we are, you need bigger fuel inlets because the stock ones don't flow enough. You can get 1.75mm needle/seats from Kaddie Shack or any EMPI dealer but if you want 2.0mm you have to order from
https://www.dellortoshop.com/contents/e ... M8014.html

This 1600 is currently running 2.0mm valves. I have some 1.75's I can send you if they are larger than what you have now.

Damn. Exhaust valve seized on cylinder 2. I had a feeling my oil temps were up there... guess I should have listened to my gut. Head temps were actually fine and the car was hauling ass. Then came the awful noises. I think the valve hung open and caused some detonation too.

I wonder what the odds are that it'll just free up and I can just fix my oil cooling issue... doubt it. Probably at least a rebuild on that valve/guide/seat. I see no damage on the piston but I wont hold my breath.

On the plus side, the heads were honestly running pretty cool on the freeway and the plugs in the unaffected cylinders look great. I think I must have debris in my oil cooler and it may have been there for a long time.

That means that the car was cooling ALMOST adequately even with iffy oil cooling. Once I get this sorted, it should be bulletproof.

I had my engine apart due to the damaged piston and while it was down I figured I'd go over some details.

Well, I already have the Kaddie shack vent tube extensions on there but I decided to try cutting the tops of them at an angle to expose them to the incoming charge air more directly. Now the car runs so rich it's beyond what my sensor can read (and yes, I have the sensor after the turbo now). It audibly chokes on the fuel at the lower revs and then comes up to 10.5:1 at full boost.

Time to drop the mains a bit. Seems like it's important to get a strong boost signal to the float bowls.

That's the way to do it though. Now you can work your way down safely.

Looks like a mad max type motor you got there. I like it. Hope you’re able to get it back in the road soon.

Already done! Hahah. Nothing holds my attention like my beetle.

I've settled on a 165 main, 47 idle, and the previously described emulsion tubes.

That sits me at 13.5 off boost and light throttle. Full throttle starts at about 11 and only comes up to 11.5 by 10 pounds in third. I dont know if I dare go leaner. Maybe after the water meth injection comes in. It's nice and smooth with these settings.

Just read your other thread, glad it was that easy of a fix.

Sweet!!! I'm guessing you are running 30mm vents in your Kads? The 1600 I built has 32mm vents and CB Panchito heads so that may explain the jetting difference.

I'm glad you can get 10psi of boost. It's surprising how good these little carbs do with boost when the right mods are made.

I really think you need to change your ignition setup to improve your low RPM torque. The dual vacuum distributor works REALLY well when hooked to ported vacuum on a Kadron and is super cheap. Or you could go with a CB Performance Black Box and have a fully programmable ignition curve.

On my 1600 it seemed to like the timing as retarded as much as i could get down low. Seemed to build boost quicker that way. You could really hear the turbo at idle if i had the advance set low.

Yeah! I want one of those DVDA cans (currently running svda). The CB black box is out of stock at my usual vendors otherwise I would have picked one up. I think if I can get my timing up to 26* with the water injection, though, I'll have a nice timing curve at that point. I saw in another STF thread that someone had 26* at 17 or so psi, which is intense.
Buguy, my 1776 is totally different. Likes alot of advance early on. Might have to do with the cam?
And yep, 30mm venturis.
